“My brother from out west and me from Mackay wanted to build our lure fishing knowledge, (i.e. instead of continuing to waste our time, effort & money doing the same things and expecting different result;) so we jumped onto the net and trolled around looking for fishing guides that provided a real learning experience as opposed to just putting clients on to hot fishing spots. During our search it became obvious that what we were looking for were few and far between, apart from a couple down south, one close to Mackay & G&T Fishing School & Charters up there in Townsville. I contacted all the ones I could find and G & T (Graham Knight) came up trumps. The reason we went with Knighty was his knowledge & enthusiasm I picked up over the phone. I had learnt a heap from Knighty even before I had met him in person.

Anyway, on to the day; the deal is, bring what you want to eat and drink (saves the dietary/food allergy dramas that seem to be everywhere today) and if you want, your own rods & reels, but all lures, leaders etc. are supplied by Knighty (this removes any anxiety about throwing your expensive lures where they may not ever return from). We drove up to Townsville the day before and booked into a caravan / cabin park from where Graham picked us up at sparrows on the day and off we went to Hinchinbrook channels; the tutorial started from when we put our seat belts on until when we took them off upon our return late that day.

During our time on the water we covered things like understanding the influences of Moon Phase, Water temperature, Barometric Pressure, Wind Direction, Cloud & Sun, Tide direction & stage, pressure points on the Target species which all influence lure selection, presentation and retrieval speeds. By the end of the day we were both whacked and in brain overload but more than satisfied with what we had learned, put into practice and fine-tuned under Knighty’s close supervision.

Andrew Yes we did catch fish, we landed a dozen or more Barra (kept 2 for a feed), had more than 20 hits and just as many followers and lookers each; All proof that what Graham taught and demonstrated worked, because neither of us would have fished where, when or how we did that day if we had gone there on our own.

Over the past week or so as everything has jelled and I have spoken to my brother over the phone, it has become even more apparent than first thought just how much extra fishing knowledge we gained from that day; not to mention the follow up calls I’ve made to Knighty (which he actually encourages) about anything from the tutorial and in general that I want to know. NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL AFTER SALES SERVICE!

Where to now, well we are going to put the money we would each spend on our next dozen good quality lures into a cunning kit instead, and then when it reaches the target sum we are going to invest it on another day with a Knight.”

"I have been fishing Townsville waters and the Hinchinbrook area for sometime (20 years) and I have not done that well. I thought I might give G&T Fishing School & Charters a look. Long story short. I did the tutorial with him and I will be honest I did at first think I was going to spend good money on little info. How wrong I was, yes I know how to lure cast but it was the things I did not know that got me. Things like where to look, where to cast and when.

Was it worth it YES? Would I do it again if I did not know the stuff I know now YES?

I will give you this, Knighty caught 17 Barra to my 5 Barra. He said more than once "there's a Barra in there", I smashed the snag to foam, he did one cast and he was on. Knighty did this more than once. Was the money spent worth it? Spend the money and you will find out!!"

"What Graham does (and does very well I might add) is share his vast knowledge of fish habitats, baits, lures and plastics, rod, rigs and tackle, how to fish a particular mark, where to get live bait and much, much more. You can ask him 500 silly questions (I did) and he explains things very well. So a hands on lesson in your own boat is the way to go.

Guides and charters are great, but as I have my own capable boat with the latest gear onboard, I now seek the knowledge that lets me fish when I want on my own boat more consistently. I can now see why I was not too 'successful' out in the bay over the years.

In summary, Graham is a very friendly and knowledgeable bloke, who bends over backwards to give you the advice you seek to chase target species in defined areas with proven techniques. Definitely top value for money".

I have always liked the saying:“Take a man fishing and feed him for a night, or teach a man to fish and feed him for life”.

Lee

"For those who are looking to gain valuable theoretical knowledge and techniques to capture a particular species, and put it into practice, Graham runs a first class operation.

I've had the pleasure of fishing along side Graham as a 16yr old up to now and thoroughly enjoy his company, generosity and time he takes, to intricately coach you on minor technical problems to better you as an angler".

"Knighty's fishing tutorials have been running for a while now and from what I know of, he's had many happy and satisfied clients. I went out with him today to mainly learn more about targeting jacks and barra. Funny time of year for me to do that but that brings me to an important point.

What Graham does is teach, he teaches fishing tutorials with a strong foundation in lure casting. So if there's a species or style of lure fishing you want to start learning about or learn more about, his school is definitely worth thinking about. For those that haven't done much lure fishing before and want to learn, or those that are experienced and want to be more effective/consistent, either or you will learn PLENTY!!!

Overall I found a solid days learning and practicing lure casting to be very much worth it in every way, even without the fish, the knowledge I walked away with at the end of the day is priceless and the lessons I learned and the info I gained I will have for life. The fish were a bonus and a reward for our efforts. The lessons and knowledge however had already paid for itself.

Today I was picked up on things and corrected on things that I wouldn't have thought that much about, but as a result I was making longer casts, more accurate casts and getting "braver" and casting into more dangerous and promising spots. My lure retrieves have improved as well, a great point to bring up is that every time you're corrected or advised there's always a lengthy explanation as to "why" and that's a strong point for me. There was never any silence, Knighty was always talking about something and always why, why, why, and for me that's what I wanted, continuous learning.

Andrew Graham's tutorials are run to help keen lure fishermen learn and become more effective and ultimately more consistent. For me that goal was achieved and I had a really great day on the water.

When it all comes together and you fool that fish with your chosen lure, and land that species you've been after all day, there is no better feeling.

I encourage others to share there opinions and experiences so that anyone interested has something to go by, I personally highly recommend a day with Graham's Fishing School."
